Preparing the communications estate for migration

A financial-services business was replacing its communications platform. Alongside building the new technology, it needed to review a substantial communications estate, prepare the records selected for the new platform and retain other records separately.

The starting point and the response

  1. 01Review the estate
  2. 02Prepare current items
  3. 03Retain legacy records
  4. 04Migrate successfully

A focused live estate

A substantial communications estate was reviewed to prepare the records selected for the new platform.

Legacy records retained appropriately

Other records were retained separately, with access maintained for business and record-keeping purposes.

Ready alongside the technology

Record preparation was completed in time for migration. All records moved successfully to the new platform or legacy store.

What we did

We assumed project leadership for a team of communications champions, providing clarity of purpose, prioritisation, coaching and reporting while the new platform was developed. We also worked directly with communications owners across the business to review and prepare the records selected for migration and organise the retention of other records.

The useful lesson

Preparing the content and data can be as demanding as implementing the platform. Give both streams clear ownership, capacity and a coordinated plan.
